Monasteries in Russia were the centre of learning. And first Russian schools were monasteries schools. Only a few children studied there. Education in old times was only for rich people. They hired private teachers to teach their children.
Now education is compulsory for children from 7 years old, for grades 1-9.
Primary school is grades 1-4. Children study reading, writing, world around, physical education, music, mathematics.
Secondary school is grades 5-9. Children have more subjects, such as Geography, Biology, Physics, Chemistry. They pass exams after grade 9 and can go to colleges or study grades 10 and 11 at high school. |
